Door Locking and Control
While some houses of worship maintain an open door to the public, others have decided to secure the location to protect the congregation and visitors. This is also a tough discussion. Fortunately, administrative area security is less controversial. Offices, storage areas, and other similar facilities may be secured easily with devices that automatically unlock with the appropriate card credential or biometric.
Intrusion Detection
Devices designed to monitor windows and locked doors may be installed inconspicuously. When activated, these intrusion detection devices send a signal to the main alarm control panel. Alarm information is immediately sent to an offsite monitoring company that dispatches police and notifies leadership. Simultaneously, an audible alarm is locally activated, provoking most criminals to leave immediately.
Mass Notification
With all these sensors, recording appliances, and locks in place, having a simple and effective way to communicate clearly with everyone in the building during an emergency is critical. Consideration must be given to integrating a mass notification system that can provide automated pre-recorded message delivery or allow for someone of authority to speak into the system with specific information about an incident.
